In this episode, we talk with Adam Brown about the bright spots and landmines of type 1 diabetes.
We cover a bunch of topics, including mental health, mindset, food, sleep, exercising, CGMs, and his work with diaTribe.
Wins & Fails
Colleen's Win: I'm having some really stable blood sugars while I go through my elimination diet to find out what foods are impacting my weight loss.
Colleen's Fail: The flip side of having such good numbers—lower insulin usage, which means that my infusion sites are going longer than 3 days, and when they reach the end of their life, they go out hard. I spiked relatively badly on day 5 of a site trying to eke out the last drops of insulin.
Hack of the Week
Intermittent fasting, also known as time-restricted eating, can be really useful for type 1 diabetics who
- have weight to lose,
- have good control over their blood sugars, and
- are willing to fast for 16 hours or longer (night time included).
I’ve been eating one meal a day for a few days now as of this recording
