Today we’re talking with my endocrinologist, Becky Blodgett. Becky is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Certified Diabetes Educator, and Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner.

I’ve known Becky since I was 6 years old, since for most of my time at Panther Camp she was the head nurse. Becky has been my personal endo since I was 18, and my diabetes management under her direction has been amazing.

In this episode, we talk about Becky's path to becoming a nurse, some unexpected family history, and of course, the role that functional medicine plays in the lives of her type 1 diabetic patients.

Wins & Fails

Jessie's Win: Jessie had a moment of open communication with her boss about maybe needing to take a break at work to treat her diabetes, since she was having an off day.

Colleen's Fail: My blood sugars are off this week because I'm not eating my normal salad. I'm contending with some unexpected highs from different foods I’m eating.

Hack of the Week

Take care of your skin. Use lotion or moisturizer on your old sites after they heal over so your skin doesn't get angry at you.

Wondering what part functional medicine plays with type 1 diabetes? My endo, Becky, comes on to talk about cortisol and functional medicine.

Meet Becky Blodgett

Becky has been in nursing for over 30 years. Her sister is a type 1 diabetic. I met Becky when was six, at Panther Day Camp. She's the one who taught me 4-7-8 breathing (which helps with anxiety) and she teaches me something new every time I see her for my 3-month checkups.

Question for You!

How have you noticed stress affecting your blood sugars? Have you tried any supplements you’ve found that help with stress?
