How should people with type 1 diabetes practice self care? Well, self care applies to everyone, but for T1Ds it's especially important. Self care is part of diabetes management.

Too many people are “running on empty” and think that it’s normal. Too many people think they’re taking care of themselves but are really just doing the bare minimum to survive. Maybe survival is what you’re focused on, but if you can, you should be focusing on thriving.

Wins & Fails

Jessie's Win: Jessie had great blood sugars during her 18th birthday!

Colleen's Fail: My husband Tim and I went on a trip to Missoula, MT, and while we were there my blood sugars were way out of whack. It was a strange week for my blood sugars, and I’m suspecting that part of it had to do with the change in elevation.

Hack of the Week

Non-diabetes hack, but college related since college is on the mind for Jessie.

If you're applying for college and don't want to pay out-of-state tuition, check if the college is part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE). This is a trading agreement with other institutions to help lower the cost of tuition for out-of-state students.

Self care is an important part of T1D management. To avoid running on empty and burning out, try implementing these self care tips for T1Ds.

Diabetes Spotlight

The spotlight this week is on JDRF’s T1D Through the Years timeline. You can enter your birthday and see what diabetes was like when you were born.
