Today we’re talking with Annette Mulligan about day-to-day mental health with type 1 diabetes. Annette is a behavioral wellness coach and speaker who is committed to guiding you to live beyond your diagnosis, own your health, and create a clear dialogue with your healthcare team.

She's had diabetes for 59 years. With that length of experience, Annette has seen so many changes in how we treat and control T1D. Her experience also lends depth to her perspective on mental health with type 1.

Wins & Fails

Colleen's Win: I actually ran my insulin cartridge down to 0 units! Usually I change it out when there are between 10 and 15 units left, and the pump alarms when there are 4 units left.

Jessie's Fail: Senioritis started kicking in because she found out she's not going back to in-person school until at least February.

Tip of the Week

We’ve often complained that diabetes is misrepresented in modern culture. If you’ve ever read fanfiction, you may be familiar with the saying that you should “write what you want to read.”

If you can’t find something that you’re looking for, do it yourself. This is a creative challenge for anyone out there who feels like type 1 diabetes needs better representation.

Be the change you want to see in the world! Write a story about diabetes. Write a screenplay. Start your own podcast or a vlog or your own movement based on what YOU think is missing. And then tell us about it so we can promote you.
