I have a whiteboard in my cubicle at work, and every day I write a “Thought of the Day,” which is usually a quote from BrainyQuote. Those are also scheduled to Twitter, so I figured it would be a good idea to incorporate them into this weekly summary as well.

Course(s) of the Week

  • Surprisingly…none! I’m purposefully taking this week as a very slow one. I need to recharge. I’ve also got events planned on Tuesday and Wednesday night that will cut down on a good portion of my day, so pre-planning to not plan anything blog related on those days is key.

Sunday, Day 57 – Welcome Mat is Now Live!

If you’ve noticed the shiny new welcome mat covering the page when you arrive, it’s because I got the email course on stress ready to go!!

Book of “the week” is still Quiet by Susan Cain, which – holy smokes – speaks to me so much. I’m an introvert, for sure. There’s a series of questions in the book that gauge how comfortable you are with pretending to be an extrovert (because many introverts do that) and all my answers swung towards “No Thanks.” I’m not a pretender. I can’t summon the energy or pluck to pretend extroversion.

It’s nice to recognize this because knowing that I don’t want to fake extroversion to fit in takes a whole lot of stress off my shoulders.

Monday, Day 58 – Pro Tip: Get Good Sleep

So I stayed up an hour past my bedtime last night to get that welcome mat working, and I paid for it today – with less than 40 minutes of deep sleep. I use a Fitbit to track my sleep, but man I felt it today.

The only thing I did tonight: I watched a replay of a webinar on Evernote with Charles Byrd. I already did the first module to Zero-to-60 With Evernote and was excited by that, but this just reinforced everything and made me jot some more notes for tag usage. Since then my tag game has gotten much better!

Tuesday, Day 59 – Angelic Reassurance

“Progress lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.” – Khalil Gibran

While there’s always room for improvement (enhancing), if we don’t move forward, we’ll never get anywhere. That’s my takeaway from Khalil Gibran here, and it’s a good one to remember.

Tonight I attended my ladies Bible study, during which we finished reading a book on the nature of angels. The biggest takeaway I’ve gotten from this study is that when people die, they do not become angels. The angels were created in a fixed number which does not change. I’ve found the study of angels to be pretty interesting, especially when thinking about the fact that there are only two named angels in the Bible: Michael the Archangel, and Gabriel.

I sometimes go through periods of heavily researching the angelic and the demonic, because I find the split to be fascinating. It also makes me seriously wonder if certain classifications of mental illness are actually demonic influences, but I won’t go down that rabbit hole here. It’s just something I find interesting.

Wednesday, Day 60 – Inside Jokes with Coworkers ROCK

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” – Winston Churchill

I think Winston Churchill is full of good advice. This one is especially important for entrepreneurs, because what’s more difficult and discouraging than starting a business that fails? Doing so multiple times! As Caitlin Pyle says, there’s no such thing as failure – only the opportunity to learn.

My team at work hosted a dinner tonight for our out-of-towners, and I had a lot of fun. It’s a nice change of pace to talk to coworkers about stuff that’s not about work – and having inside jokes is amazing.

So I’m Type 1 Diabetic, and I wear a Dexcom CGM sensor on my arm. When I first met Coworker A, she did the friendly shoulder smack and hit the sensor. The conversation went something like this:

“Um, I have a sensor there, so please don’t do that.”

Coworker A now has eyes the size of dinner plates. “OH MY GOSH I’M SO SORRY! I’m never doing that again! Maybe I just shouldn’t hit people. Yeah.”

At dinner, Coworker B was sitting in between me and Coworker A. She’s telling me a story and lightly hits my arm on, you guessed it, the sensor.

I smile that smile of restrained laughter, casually rub my hand over the sensor, and meet Coworker A’s eyes.

We burst into laughter, and can’t stop.

It was awesome.

Thursday, Day 61 – Facebook Jail

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” – Confucius

This quote also is a great one for entrepreneurs to remember. If you fall down, pick yourself back up. Nobody else is going to do it for you.

So this morning when a scheduled pin of mine (through Tailwind) was pinned, I realized that I’d given it the wrong description and source URL. I only realized this after posting it on a Facebook thread, so I immediately deleted the comment and thus began to fix my mistake…except Facebook doesn’t like it when you comment and delete, or comment the same thing multiple times.

So I’m in Facebook Jail.

I have no idea how long it’s going to last, but to be safe I’m not going to try posting any more links until the morning this post goes live.

I’m going to have to figure out a better way of ignoring emails until I get to the courses offered by each of the senders. It’s getting ridiculous.

Friday, Day 62 – Kindness Begets Kindness

“All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward.” – Ellen Glasgow

I like this quote because it’s a good reminder that some change can be bad, and some movement can be backward.

A good example is a negative change in your eating habits, which can cause weight gain.

I had to stop by the bank today to make a deposit, and the teller needed my ID to complete it. She took one look at my driver’s license picture, back up at my face, and said “Wow! What are you doing?? You look amazing! When did you get this taken??”

20 lbs difference week nine

I got my ID in June 2017 after changing my name, and the difference between that picture and today is 18 pounds – apparently all in my face! The teller asked for my “secret”, which is keto (AKA very low carb), and told me that I’m an inspiration to her.

You guys, I felt so good about myself after this! That bank teller put a spring in my step and even made me feel skinnier as I left. She was so kind, and kindness begets kindness.

Saturday, Day 63 – Black Pantherrrrr

“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.” – Julia Child

I’ve been passionate about writing since I was twelve, and have kept at it in one form or another since then. I’d love to know my lifetime word count, but feel like I’d be baffled where to start even estimating that. I imagine it’s in the millions!

Last week I posted my article on the relationship between mental health and being overweight. I’m super excited to share with you guys that this morning I’ve officially lost 40 pounds!

Today the husband and I finally saw Black Panther in preparation for Avengers Infinity War.

It was really good! I loved the huge strong cast of women and the badass way they fight. T’Challa’s sister (Shuri) might be my favorite character in this. I also love that Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman were called the “Tolkien White Guys” on set!

I’m a HUUUUGE Marvel fan, but we don’t go to the theater very often anymore except for Marvel movies. I didn’t even see Fantastic Beasts in theaters, and I’m a hardcore Harry Potter fan! We don’t want to be missing anything when we go for Avengers later this month (release date is April 27th!) It’s been ten years since the first Iron Man movie, and thus the beginning of this amazing series of movies, so I’m expecting an amazing movie in Avengers Infinity War.

This trailer gives me so many chills! Ten years in the making. I’m gonna cry when we see this.

What’s Next?

I actually haven’t decided. What I really need to do is take some time on Sunday to develop a realistic plan of attack, since I need to get back into the groove of not just creating content, but consuming it as well. I’ve got loads to learn! In the meantime, I’m always coming up with more ideas, which get captured in Evernote now.

In any case, I splurged for Tailwind Plus, and now have the ability to schedule unlimited pins instead of just 100 total! Yay!
