Welcome to The Journey to Magnificence! This is week thirty-one: September 9 – 15, 2018.

This week started out with a bang and ended with a BAM. I got my champagne moment done pretty much immediately and left the rest of the week for reading towards my 30-day challenge and reading fanfiction.

I’m struggling with a few things, mostly mindset around building a virtual assistant side business, and competing priorities amongst all my responsibilities.

The top lesson of the week: I do NOT want to be an event planner.

What I Said I’d Do

  • Decide 3 things to focus on next week and pre-schedule each day’s 3 most important things in advance. And stick to it. These are the top 3:
    • Create opt-in for a new homepage
    • Create & implement Welcome.ly homepage using the new opt-in
    • Spend 2 hours on the Goal Slaying Course

What I Actually Worked On

  • Created an opt-in for a new “home page”
  • Created the new page for the opt-in
  • Shared it out on social media and in Facebook groups

Sunday, Day 211 – Relax & Lower the Stress, Colleen!

I took today at a slower pace for good reason – yesterday I managed to cram in a LOT of deep work and productive hours. Trying to do so again today smells like burnout. Everyone needs to take a break sometimes, even those of us trying to build things on the side.

For me, it’s harder to take time “off,” so to speak, because it feels like I’m sacrificing productivity and momentum for things that can feel trivial and time-wasting.

I actually thought about spending some time playing Skyrim today, and instead ended up doing research on credit cards and points & miles programs. We’re planning to take a trip to Scotland in the next couple years and want to pay for the flights with points…which means we’ve got to start accumulating them.

Monday, Day 212 – What a Niece Day

Today’s small 3:

  • Decide on the opt-in type
    • I chose to create a PDF resource guide.
  • Select opt-in topic or focus
    • Alist of 5 books that will help you start cutting through the chaos of life, and one bonus book addressing health and wellness issues.
  • Create rough draft
    • This went a lot faster than I expected, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised! Breaking things down into small chunks is how you get shit done.

I actually ended up doing a lot of the work I had planned for the rest of the week, tonight. Once I got in the flow of creating this opt-in, it went so fast! I tried to make the new page live tonight, but the opt-in button doesn’t work as it’s supposed to, so I have to wait to hear back from support before it’ll go live for real.

Today is also my niece’s sixth birthday. It’s hard to believe she’s growing up so quickly!

Tuesday, Day 213 – Team Dinner

Today’s small 3:

  • Re-read rough draft of opt-in
    • I re-read it this morning, and the immediately did small thing #2 🙂
  • Make any edits or additions that I may have thought of overnight
  • Be present at my team dinner after work 🙂

I love going out to meals with my work team. It fosters a greater sense of camaraderie and I always learn things about them that I didn’t know before.

This also brings up a good point – that building relationships with the people you work with is important for your mental health. If you don’t like your coworkers, that puts undue stress on your system that fosters a lot of negativity.

And as it’s been said before, negativity is about nine times more powerful (in the bad sense) than positivity.

Let’s not be negative!

Wednesday, Day 214 – New Opt-In Live

Today’s small 3:

  • 30 minutes to 1 hour on #GoalSlaying in 6 Steps course
  • Schedule some Skype dates with my best friends – I haven’t seen/talked “face-to-face” with either in a long time.
  • Complete lesson 6.1 in 30 Days or Less to VA Success

This list didn’t get worked on today – I ended up doing the 2nd two items later in the week.

What I’m excited about is actually getting the new “home” page working! Welcome.ly fixed the issue I was having and now it works just fine. I’m still waiting to see it integrated with my email service, though.

Check it out here!

Thursday, Day 215 – Nope. Nope. Nope.

Today’s small 3:

  • 30 minutes to 1 hour on #GoalSlaying in 6 Steps course
    • …nope
  • Update my Resource Page
    • Didn’t get to this; instead, I’m scheduling it for next week.
  • Complete final draft of opt-in
    • Already done!

There was a family crisis today so all my attention focused on that situation instead of blog work. About the only thing I did do was finish some reciprocation threads in a Facebook group.

Unfortunately, the crisis is of a mental-health variety and came out of left field for those involved. My family could use some thoughts, prayers, and support.

Friday, Day 216 – TGIF

Today’s small 3:

  • Build home-page using Welcome.ly
  • Upload & connect the opt-in
  • Test & then launch!

Kind of funny that all three of today’s “small things” were done earlier in the week. I made this my “champagne moment” for the week and I think it’s the first one that was technically done by Wednesday! (Really the bulk of it got done on Monday.)

I went back to the VA course tonight too because I’ve been neglecting it for a while.

My 30-day challenge to read 10+ books in 30 days is eating up more time than I thought it would, so because of that I’m spending less time doing things that might move my business forward.

I’ll have to keep that in mind for future challenges, although November’s going to be difficult anyway because it’s NaNoWriMo.

On another note, I’m officially beginning the “points and miles” hobby – building up flexible credit card points to travel for cheap or free in the future 🙂 We got approved for our first intentional credit card!

If you want more information on that, check out Nina Manni! She’s got an awesome workshop on the topic and is the most knowledgeable person I know in the niche.

Saturday, Day 217 – Lazy Weekend

I’m just going to check off the things that I did do today:

  • Spent what must have been 3 hours reading on my Kindle
  • Finished Module 6 of the VA course
  • Watched replays of 3 different videos on Facebook; two were coaching calls with Demir Bentley in the Focus & Control Time Mastery group.

One thing I’ve been noticing for the past few weeks is less commitment to my time tracker.

This is a problem, considering I KNOW that the time tracker is what keeps me accountable to myself and my list of things to do.

I feel like I’ve lost some momentum with it. For the next one, I might make my own version, limiting to 4 weeks instead of 8 at a time, and breaking down the chunks even further so I’m recording every 15 minutes instead of every 30.

One of the problems I’m noticing is that I might read for 15 minutes and write for the other 15 and want to classify those differently.

Who does laundry for 30 minutes straight?

I’ll test out a 15-min at a time version and share it if I think it might be useful for you guys.

What’s Next?

  • Complete Module 7 of 30 Days or Less to VA Success
  • Since using the phrase “spend X amount of time” in a course doesn’t seem to be working for me, I’m going to change it up and say Finish Module 1 of the #GoalSlaying in 6 Steps course.
